Whenever any of the competitions include separate categories for 'Beginner' or 'Advanced', the following will apply:
Beginners' Category– is open to members, provided that
they have not come first, second or third in a national or international
competition, such as BSoUP Portfolio Competitions, BSoUP
or St Abbs Splash-Ins, Image, U/W Photographer of the Year, Wildlife
Photographer of the Year, Marine Conservation Society etc. Anyone winning more than one BUPG competition is also ineligible.
Advanced Category– is for the more experienced who
do not fit into the Beginners' category.

BUPG Monthly Theme Competition
1.The monthly theme
competition is for images taken within the previous 24
months unless allowed for in an 'Open' theme. A maximum of two entries per person.
2. Images should be
submitted in JPEG format at a maximum size of 1024 pixels wide or 768 pixels
high, at a resolution of 72ppi. Apply medium compression to give a file size of less than 350kb.
3.The digital image files are to be sent by
1200hrs on the Sunday before the Tuesday Meeting, unless notified otherwise by the
Competitions Member.
4. Competition entries
will be projected on the night and judged by the audience
present.
5. File names should comprise the photographer's name, the theme, and a number e.g. jsmithcloseup1, jsmithcloseup2. If a Competition is over subscribed, entries may be limited to one per member; In which case, image number 2 would be discarded.
6. The entrant must be the photographer.
7. All entries
must have been taken underwater. Swimming pool and aquarium shots are not
eligible, unless specifically allowed for a special competition.

Portfolio Competitions
Advanced
1. All entries

should include the entrant's name e.g.jsmithport.jpg
7. Only one entry per person.
Beginner
1. All entries
must have been taken underwater. Swimming pool and aquarium shots are not
eligible, unless specifically allowed for a special competition.
2. The entrant
must be the photographer.
3. The entrant must qualify as a 'beginner' - see above.
4. There is no
time limit on when images were taken.
5. The entry
shall comprise of three images, each a maximum of 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels tall (at a resolution of 72 pixels/inch). The images will be shown sequentially.
6. File names
should include the entrant's name e.g.jsmithport1.jpg
7. Only one entry of three images per person.

Print Competition
1. Two
categories - British, and Overseas.
2. Maximum of two prints
per person (any category).
3. Prints should be unmounted and a maximum size
of A4 (or 12 in x 8in). Prints may have a backing board and may have a border.
The competition will
be judged by each member picking their top three in
each category. The overall winner, decided on
the combination of scores, will be awarded the BUPG
Print Trophy.

BUPG Splash-In Competition

The BUPG Splash-In
competition will take place on either day to suit individuals.There will
be two competition levels (providing there are a sufficient entries) - Beginners and Experienced.
Rules
1. Competitors may take as many
images as they wish.Images may be taken
in any format (RAW, TIFF or JPEG) but entries must subsequently be supplied in
JPEG format.
2. There are three categories, 'Macro', 'Animal Portrait' and 'Wide-Angle'. A maximum of 4 images per entrant, and 2 in any one category
will be allowed.
3. MINIMAL digital manipulation using sharpening, colour correction, brightness and
contrast adjustment may be made to the whole image ONLY
. No cropping is allowed. The original file should be available for inspection at the July Meeting.
4. Images should be submitted in JPEG format at a maximum size of 1024 pixels wide or 768 pixels high. Note: unless your camera sensor is a 4:3 ratio (most compacts), the final dimensions will not be 1024 x 768. Expect something like 1024 x 685, or 768 x 584. File
names should comprise the photographer's name and the category, e.g..... jsmithmacro1,
jsmithmacro2, etc.
5. Competition entries will be
projected on the night of the July Meeting.
Category Definitions
1. Macro -
photograph taken of an area in front of the camera A4 size or less. 2.
Wide-Angle - photograph taken of an area in front of the camera greater than A4
size. 3. Animal Portrait - photograph in which a fish or other marine animal
is the main focus of the image.
