   ARTHUR KINGDON

Arthur has been diving since 1969 and, although he was always a keen land photographer, it was not until the year 2000 that he took up underwater photography. Initially, this was with a Nikonos 4a, which was replaced with a Nikon F4 in an Aquatica housing. However, it was the switch to digital in 2004, with the purchase of a D100 and an Aquatica housing, that really fired his enthusiasm:"I had always been a wreck diver and a camera just got in the way. However, I was starting to get bored and doing less and less diving, when a close encounter with a humpback whale in 1999 convinced me that I needed an underwater camera. Although I have not been close to a humpback since (!), I'm now keener than ever and do as much diving as I can. Whether it's cold water or warm water, a shrimp, or a whaleshark - I don't mind, I just enjoy photographing the underwater world"
