I only 'discovered' diving in my late 30's; it was after a 'try dive' in Bali that I was hooked. But after a while I found myself diving without a real purpose, so I took up underwater photography; which was an odd choice as I was not (and still so) at all interested in photography above water. My first attempts were with a film camera (Motormarine 11Ex), but I was frustrated at the lack of 'feedback', especially when I returned from the Maldives only to find that 99% of my images were poor. Then I discovered the joys of a compact digital; i.e.immediate feedback!
I now use a Nikon D100 DSLR and I'm sure its ability will always exceed mine! I am striving to achieve the 'perfect' shot; the one that sums up all that the underwater world means to me; being truly at one with the marine environment.
