There is off road parking adjacent to the Centre and further spaces along Rodway Road, near to the local Spa shop.

The monthly competition theme is 'Wrecks'. Send your digital files to Bob (anthonyrez30@tiscali.co.uk ) and please include BUPG on the subject line. Note that all images are to be in by midday on the Sunday before - this will be the standard cut off time unless advised otherwise by Bob. Unsure about entering? Even if you don't feel you have any winners, send some in to benefit from the audience feedback - it's an ideal way to learn.

Our Annual Print Competition will be held at this Meeting . Bring along your unmounted A4 prints - one Overseas, one British but check the Competition Rules first.

Jim Drake will give a short presentation introducing us to 'Lightroom'.

The Foto Forum will discuss the monthly theme for March 2010 - Monochrome

Monthly Theme Competition - Symbiosis

With our extended feedback session in mind, the entries have  now been limited to two per person. This month the entries were down a bit, with only fifteen. Images from Nuweiba dominated, showing yet again what a good destination it is for UW photographers.

The clear winner, with eight votes, was this image of a goby and partner shrimp by Arthur Kingdon.

Taken in Nuweiba, with a 105mm lens at f18

In Second Place, with three votes, was this image of a red mouth group and cleaner shrimps by Bob Anthony. Shot in Nuweiba.

In Third Place, with two votes, was this image of a lizard fish and cleaner shrimp by Arthur Kingdon.

Another image from Nuweiba, shot with a 105mm lens

Three images picked up one vote each:

Batfish and cleaner wrasse by Jim Drake......

Anemone and anemone fish by Tamsin Eyles.......

..hermit crab and anemones by Jan Davies. Nuweiba yet again.

MISCELLANEOUS

Epson Red Sea Photo Shoot - Rob Bailey

Rob Bailey gave a presentation on the 2009 Epson Red Sea Photo Shoot, in which he represented Great Britain. This was a fascinating  insight from a competitor's viewpoint. He started off by showing images from the run-up to the Competition by which the winner was selected as the GB representative. He was sponsored by BSoUP, who also paid for Paula (wife and model) to travel to Eilat with him. He also managed to get sponsorship from a couple of equipment manufacturers who equipped Paula with a very photogenic wetsuit and BCD. Once in Eilat, there was plenty to keep the underwater photographer occupied. Lots of great people from all over the world, sharing a common passion, made for plenty of parties. However, the diving was pretty much full on and the Shoot Out was three days of unlimited diving, so partying was not Rob's priority. With Paula as his dive buddy and model (no solo diving allowed), he packed in quite a number of dives over the three days and his hard work paid off. Rob was 'nominated' in two of the categories which meant that he was in the top five in those categories. This was a great result, especially considering the high number of photographers who took part (including many with local knowledge). If you fancy taking part in 2010, or just want to read more, then check out the Epson website.

BSoUP Open Portfolio - Trevor Rees

As reported last month, Trevor Rees has made rather a habit of winning portfolio competitions and can rightly be described as the current master of the art. To help us mere mortals, he explained how he went about creating his winning 'Open' portfolio. No manipulation was involved, no heavy cropping, just six stunning images from his recent trip to Canada. He started off with the medusa image top centre and worked around that. Everything balances and the result was a win by a very big margin. Easy, isn't it?

Keep bubbling,

Arthur
